Living Proudly: A Lesson from Mel Robbins' Let Them Theory

"Instead of wasting your time worrying about them, start living your life in a way that makes you proud of yourself."
The casting room. That's where I first learned the true cost of seeking external validation. As a young actor, I didn't just want the role – I felt like I needed permission to even be in the room. My talent would shine through when someone already believed in me, but walking in cold? My insecurity spoke louder than my abilities. Looking back, I wish I had trusted that being authentically me was enough.
This pattern followed me into my business career, but with a transformative twist. As a business coach and leadership trainer, I witnessed firsthand how external validation could be both a crutch and a bridge. My former employer's belief in me created opportunities I might have otherwise shied away from. Now, as a Co-CEO of my own company, Empowering Leadership Teams, Mel Robbins' Let Them Theory resonates deeply: it's time to fully own my extensive experience in coaching, consulting, and training – to stand confidently in my gifts without seeking permission.
The cost of external validation isn't just professional – it's deeply personal. I've spent countless sleepless nights overthinking situations that never materialized, allowing fear of judgment to keep me playing small. This journey has taught me one of my most powerful coaching principles: "Protect your energy." It's a message that echoes throughout Robbins' work, and one I've lived to understand intimately.
As a coach, nothing brings me more joy than witnessing the transformation in leaders when they shift from seeking external validation to trusting their inner wisdom. Their entire presence changes – faces light up, interactions become more authentic, and their impact grows exponentially. This isn't just about individual success; it's about creating a ripple effect of empowered, authentic leadership.
Think about it: How much mental energy do we spend wondering what others think of our decisions? Our careers? Our lifestyles? This constant external focus drains us of the very energy we need to align with our true values and inner wisdom.
My invitation to you is simple: Join this journey toward authentic living. Let's create a community of individuals who aren't afraid to live freely and embrace their unique paths. Because when we live in a way that makes us proud, we give others permission to do the same.
